Vision of the Collaborative Biobank

CoBi is a collaborative research project coordinated by the DKMS and established with other cooperation partners responsible for the organisation and execution of stem cell transplantations in Germany, namely transplant centres, collection centres and other donor registries. The aim of CoBi is to create resources for future research purposes over a long-term time frame in order to improve donor selection for stem cell transplants and optimize patient treatment. With CoBi, a platform is to be established to improve the cooperation of all partners in the field of  haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

CoBi collects blood samples from interested participants (donors and patients), prepares them biologically and stores them under standardized laboratory conditions. In addition, medical and sample-related data of the participants are stored in encrypted form in the CoBi database.

Scope of use: The collection, storage and storage of blood samples and data is carried out within a framework of use defined jointly by all cooperation partners. The samples and data may only be used to:

  • Improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers;

  • Carry out research projects aimed at improving the results of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation; or

  • Optimize donor selection for allogeneic stem cell transplantations.
